Abstract: The lexical approach is a teaching methodology that emphasizes the importance of vocabulary and lexical chunks—combinations of words that frequently occur together—in language learning. Coined by Michael Lewis in the 1990s, the approach challenges traditional grammar-focused methods by arguing that understanding and using language effectively is largely dependent on acquiring a rich repertoire of vocabulary and phrases.
