Abstract: The Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS)
is  one  of  the  most  significant  large-scale  international  assessments  of  student
achievement  in  mathematics  and  science.  Conducted  every  four  years  by  the
International  Association  for  the  Evaluation  of  Educational  Achievement  (IEA),
TIMSS provides comparative data on student performance and educational practices
across countries. This article explores TIMSS’s history, methodology, key findings,
and  its  role  in  shaping  education  policy.  By  examining  its  impact  and  addressing
criticisms,  the  article  underscores  TIMSS’s  value  as  a  tool  for  educational
improvement. The discussion concludes with recommendations for leveraging TIMSS
data to address global and local challenges in education.
